South-east of Peebles lies the quiet Manor Valley. At the head lies Dollar, its forest surrounded by open moorland. The Dollar Law is one of the highest peaks in the area: 817m. Dollar's forest was planted in the early seventies and a walk starts from the parking area at the south end. The friends of John Veitch erected this cairn in his memory. It bears the following inscription: " Raised in his favourite valley by a few friends, affectionately remembered, John Veitch 1900".
